I DID IT!!!!

Guess who successfully ran their first 5K yesterday morning?

THIS GIRL!

My time was 30.31 which meant I ran about 10 minute miles- I was very impressed by that time for my first 5K!!

I ran with two of my friends from work, one who had an issue with her foot which meant she was running a little bit behind us. But Kaitlin and I ran the entire race together which I found very motivating. It was nice because when I wanted to stop and walk she would tell me there was no chance I could stop and walk. I ran the entire time!

Since my main goal was to simply finish this race and check it off my bucket list- the experience was extremely positive- they even gave out super nice long sleeved shirts! =)
Unfortunately I had to stuff that super nice long sleeved shirt inside my fleece pocket which made me appear to weight approximately 1000 pounds in all the pictures taken!

Here's my race number:

Finishing the race..you can kind of see me behind that guys head....

My parents came to watch too which I was so thankful for! It was so nice of them =) Kaitlin took a picture of them with me after the race so when she sends that to me I will have to share it!

Overall it was an amazing experience and I can't wait until my next race! Which will be....? To be decided =)

But guess who was waiting for me when I got home...

Have a great day everybody!!! =)

Great Run!

Yesterday, I had the best and most exciting run of my training plan so far!

Here's what it looked like:

5 minute warm up walk
10 minute run
5 minute walk
10 minute run
5 minute cool down walk

I cannot believe that somehow I managed to run for 10 minutes straight once- let alone twice! I feel like my body has literally come so far in the past 5 weeks it is incredible to me!

My run was completed on the treadmill due to the horrifying rain/snow mix taking place outside- so I have stats for you:

Closer to 3.1 miles each time- and so many calories burned! =)

Does this week feel like it's dragging to anyone else? I can't believe it's only Thursday! I can't wait for the weekend to get here- the next few weekends are going to be extremely busy and I'm excited about all my upcoming plans! Between birthday celebrations, seeing So You Think You Can Dance, Thanksgiving, and the race after Thanksgiving life will be pretty busy the next few weeks!

I need to start planning out my last few training sessions (only 8 more left!) I want to make sure my last few are run outdoors so I know the cold weather won't be a problem on race day. It's crazy how I have gone from running for a minute/walking for a minute to running 10 minutes at all time and soon I will be running for 35 minutes straight! Crazy!

Are you currently training for a race? How's it going?
Are you a natural runner or do you have to work for every minute you continue running?

I am definitely NOT a natural runner by any means. I work for every second that I force myself to continue running. I wish I had that natural ability- my brother has it (he used to win x-country races in high school without ever following a training plan. Hopefully someday I'll be able to keep up with him!

All signed up!

This morning I did something pretty exciting....

I signed up for my first 5k!

East Greenwich Turkey Trot!

I am super excited because I truly think that setting a date will force me to continue with training plan and allow me to be successful. Honestly my only goal for this race is to simply finish it! I want to run the entire thing without stopping and show myself that I can do it! =) A little less than 2 months of training to go!

After breakfast I took my baby girl for a walk...she wasn't too motivated of course...

I love the weird positions she sleeps in, whenever she's in my bed she likes to completely sprawl out and act as if she's a person.

We saw some signs of fall on our walk

But then one of us threw up. And the other one had to carry that one home.
Can you guess who?

Poor sick puppy =(
She seems okay now but she looked awful sad when we got home.

I'm awful to snuggle up with my baby, then off to work later tonight.

First Post

Hey everyone,

Welcome to my first blog post! This blog is about my day to day life with some other aspects thrown in as well.

Today I walked in my first 5K (not quite up to running it, but walking one was definitely a start!). The race I chose to attend was The first annual rainbow race which was a local event in memory of a girl who went to the same high school as me. It was a wonderful event!

My mom was the one who initially informed me of this event and of what a wonderful cause it was for... I was immediately game for walking the 5K and took the day off of work back in the fall to ensure I would be able to attend!

I invited my best friend, Rachel to come walk with me which she did. She also brought her boyfriend Ant who is so much fun, so I had a blast walking with the two of them all morning.

When we went to line up at the beginning of the race, my mom took off to walk with her teacher friends and left us in the dust! However, Rachel and I were determined to catch up and pass her...and pass her we did ;)

Unfortunately it started raining in the middle of the race, but it was a great time and no one seemed to let the rain bother them!

Here are Rachel and Ant during the walk... (sorry for the blurry picture!)

Rachel and I getting soaked.

We finished the 5K!

After the race, there was food set up all over the place. I was starving so I grabbed a banana and a strawberry bar I had never heard of and can't remember the name of for the life of me! I also grabbed a water bottle which I quickly gulped down!

There was a band set up from a local church, raffles, and tons and tons of people! Despite the rain everyone hung around for a little while which was great and wonderful supportive!

I offset my healthy eating with a coffee and double chocolate donut from Dunkin Donuts soon after the race...which was equally as delicious as the banana I had!

My goal is to next time run a 5K, then maybe by next year I will have that mastered and be able to run the 10K that accompanies this 5K walk....we'll see! =)

Have a great day everybody!
