New Bedroom: Part 1

Happy Monday!

Another week has begun and things are busy around these parts! I had an awesome weekend and spent a ton of time with friends which was great, but now my to-do list has only grown! I also have a huge list of blog posts to write, and I want to get back into couponing since I've been majorly slacking in both areas lately.

Today I thought I would share with you a small section of my bedroom and I will continue to share sections until I've shared everything. Then we will move onto other areas of the house as they are finished. There are still so many projects going on around here and so much to share!

The first part of my room I'm sharing is my closet!

There are two sides to my closet... when you enter the right side...

I have long dresses hanging on high rod in the center of the closet. This was my dad's idea since the other rod is so low, this way I am able to hang dresses, skirts and potentially even pants so they aren't brushing along the floor.

I keep all my shirts organized by sleeve length and then color within each sleeve length. I placed them in the opposite direction of my old closet.  Tank tops, short sleeves, long sleeved, sweaters, sweatshirts and jackets.

I love looking at a nicely organized closet!

Above my shirts I have all flat shoes- water shoes, flip-flops, sandals and flats.

The shelving on the side of my closet holds my high heels, sneakers, clogs, and boots.

The bottom shelf holds all my accessories. Then underneath the shelving I have extra hangers and my suitcase.

Here's a closer look of what is inside each bin.

The first bin holds hats, gloves, umbrellas, and belts.

My favorite bin holds scarves. These are my favorite accessories =)

The next bin holds bathing suits. I really weeded these out last year- I think I might need a new one this year!

The last bin holds extra bags. I have tote bags, cross body bags, laptop cases, etc.. I also have a few bags behind this bin that wouldn't fit inside (backpacks, larger bags, etc..)

On the other side of my closet is my dresser, craft cart and all my beauty supplies. I am hoping to purchase something to hold all my beauty products in soon- which I will update you with in the future! My dresser holds (from top to bottom) underwear and bras, socks, jeans and pants, shorts, and workout clothes/pajamas.

There are few updates that I will be making in the future but I really like how I've simplified my closet. I have reduced the amount of clothing I have and it has made a huge difference!

See that little doorway on the left? That will be the next section of this series...my stockpile closet! =)

Have a great day!

Labels, Labels Everywhere!

On Tuesday when I stopped in Staples, I obviously had to browse the Martha Stewart section. I knew pretty much what I wanted, I had bookplate labels in mind, but I wasn't sure exactly what I would end up picking up.

I decided to buy the cheaper, smaller labels since there is no reason to have humongous labels (double this size) in this particular project. You can find them online, here.

There are six of these bookplate labels in each package, so I purchased two.

I also, used my new washi tape to help with the label making!

What project would be complete without my handy label maker?

Now, there are several places I wanted to put these labels. I ended up being able to use them on all the places I had originally planned which turned out great. I think they look awesome as well!

I labeled all three (Yes, three! You will see the third one soon!) of my DVD bins. Remember when I put all my DVDs in these bins? Such a space saver and it has worked out wonderfully so far. These baskets are from Target and you can find them here.

I also labeled all of my closet bins that needed labels. These bins were purchased at JcPenney's from the Michael Graves collection. I couldn't find the exact colors I purchased on their website (I know they were on clearance when I bought them, so they may not be available anymore), however here is a color I like. There are several other colors and designs available on the site as well.

Now, I can glance at the label rather then having to pull bins down to see what is inside them. For a shorty, this makes a huge difference. I also love that these labels stay firmly placed on the bins, but are easy to remove. I can easily take them off and place them somewhere else if need be.

I think that these labels complete the look that I am going for in my organization system.

Have you used any products from the Martha Stewart line at Staples?

I can personally recommend Martha's notebooks, expandable files, and these labels. I hope to try out more of her products in the future!

A little more organization in the closet....

Well this weekend I have been OBSESSED with cleaning and organizing. I will be sharing more about that tomorrow, but for now, I thought I would show you a little project I completed yesterday afternoon just to make my closet look a little prettier.

Recently, I had been eyeing some beautiful bins by Michael Graves at JC Penney's. I ran into JCP when it first opened yesterday morning in order to get my hands on these babies...

Originally I wanted to get all light blue bins, but they didn't have enough so I picked up two small blue, two small tan, and one big blue.

The area that I wanted to contain in these bins is one that has been driving me crazy lately. I have stockpiled quite a few items on my shelves, and although I was using an old boot box from Bakers as a bin, it wasn't working quite the way I wanted it to.

It was time to dump everything out on the floor, which resulted in quite the mess.

Then I sorted everything into categories; lotions, hair products, body wash, shaving needs, and dental needs.

Then it was time to put everything in a home!

A bin for lotions. Holy crap, I have a lot of lotion.

A bin for toothpaste, mouthwash and dental floss. I probably don't need to buy toothpaste for a long time.

A bin for razors and shaving cream.

And a bin for hair care and body wash.

The leftover items were corralled in a small pile on the floor.

And how much better do those shelves look now?

The items that I had in the pile on the floor were placed in a bin underneath my bed. The boxes of tissues that were on the shelf got switched to the other side where dental items used to be.

Should we do a little before and after tour?

Before.

After.

How much better does that look?!

I swear I get giddy with excitement every time I walk in my closet! =)

Happy Columbus Day everybody!
