Two Small Ikea Organization Projects

Good morning!

Today I'm sharing two small projects that were done this weekend to help organize our home. On Saturday my mom offered to puppysit Sophie so Tim and I could take the hour and a half drive up to Ikea to get some shopping done!

We had a ton of items on our list (and have another order arriving next Sunday too!) but we managed to work our way through the store and found a solution for quite a few projects that we have planned.

Today I'm sharing two that I implemented pretty quickly and had done on Saturday night and Sunday.  They were small projects but I think will make a big impact in our house organization.

This first problem was our front closet. Tim saw this shoe rack and thought it would really help our front closet because our shoes were totally out of control. In our apartment we used a plastic shoe tray to contain all our shoes which worked fine but now that they are all inside the closet it was looking out of control.

See what I mean? I also needed to take all our sandals and put them away in our own closets since we won't be using them until next summer. One I had our shoes organized I put the shoe rack in and started putting the shoes away and setting everything up.

So much better right?! Small change but a big impact!

The next project took place in our basement laundry area.

I knew I wanted a rolling cart for between my washer and dryer and I had the perfect one picked out at Ikea.

Once Tim put the cart together I brought it down the basement and got it set up in my laundry area.

I love that it gives me space to store my laundry supplies without taking up the top of the dryer!

Super simple and easy but makes a huge difference! In the future we are interested in getting a new washer and dryer and moving the laundry room into an addition upstairs but for now this works just fine!

Those are two projects I did this weekend to organize my house, what projects did you do this weekend?

Spring Cleaning: Organizing and Deep Cleaning the Laundry Room

I decided to organize and deep clean our laundry room yesterday. This is a room that gets little love for the big job it does. In a room that's working so hard to get things clean, it deserves a little more cleaning love!

This was the state of our laundry room:

So, I started off by emptying out each section of the cabinets and wiping down the inside. I made sure that each item went back in a similar location so that way no one would be searching for a specific product.

Looks so much better right?

When I climbed on top of the dryer to dust the top of the cabinet it made me wonder if anyone had ever dusted up there before….

I'm sure the dryer lint has something to do with that mess but nevertheless it is a little embarrassing!

So much cleaner and nicer!

I did the same thing with this cabinet- taking everything out, wiping everything down and putting everything back in neatly in a similar location.

I also found some change, which I figured was my payment for cleaning up!

 Sigh. So much better!

I also wiped down all the baseboards, cleaned out the sink, and cleaned out our sample bin where something had leaked. I'm very pleased with this clean up!

Laundry Room CleanUp

Last week, I completed another little project that was driving me mad.

Our laundry room is quite spacious and gets filled up with just extra junk really easily since it is located off our mudroom and garage. I went in there knowing I couldn't get rid of too much since it mostly does not belong to me- but I wanted to clean it up and organize it a little bit.

You'd never believe that all that junk was hidden behind those cabinet doors would you? Well I was sick of seeing all that stuff in there!

Another corner of the laundry room had a bunch of laundry samples that we've gotten free. Also in this little container was coins, nails, screws, and other things that fell out of peoples pockets in the wash. There were also other little things in this container as well- and they needed to get out of the laundry room!

All that's left now are the samples! Much better =)

This basket also drove me nuts! There are a few items in here for when we give Roxy a bath, an extra leash, some cleaning supplies- basically just needed to be reorganized.

Much better!

And this is one of the cabinets after getting reorganized... items are mostly just arranged differently, but still in a way that makes sense. I would like to go through this more and still need to go through the other side of the cabinet- but it looks better for now!

Quick Before and Afters!
