Making Money: Poshmark

I recently decided to sign up for the popular Poshmark and start selling some things out of my closet. I definitely wear some of my clothes completely out but there are definitely clothes that I wear once and never bother with again. In fact I found a costume I ordered last year and never wore that was still packaged up. 

I think that everyone is able to find at least a few things to sell from their homes which can make you a little bit of extra money. I know I can always use money but especially this time of the year! In my first weekend on Poshmark I made almost $50 selling just five items!

An Organized Yard Sale!

Happy Labor Day!

It was quite a laborious week around here last week- we spent a ton of time getting ready for the yard sale we held on Saturday. Since we had a successful yard sale I thought I would share with you my experience and how we kept things organized!

We (my mom and I) spent a great deal of time digging through every closet, attic space and bookshelf  decluttering. Our current home has a ton of storage and is quite a bit bigger then the house we are moving into- meaning we need to get rid of anything we don't absolutely love and use.

Originally we had gathered everything in the basement because we planned on having the sale in our side yard. After further thought we changed the location to our front yard- meaning everything had to be lugged back out of the basement and into the living room.

On Friday we started taking everything from the living room outside. My mom and I aren't exactly early morning people- meaning we didn't want to be lugging stuff outside at 5AM- so we thought that setting everything up the day before sounded like a much better plan.

I decided that I would bag each set of earrings into individual ziploc bags. I thought it would be easier for people to see and this way nothing would get lost in the shuffle. I placed all my jewelry in a little basket and marked it all as one price which made everything much easier.

We put like things together- all kitchen items together, sports equipment in the same area, all glass items grouped together on the same table, and all toys together under a tent.

We also had a free section across the driveway which we continued to add to throughout the day. This definitely drew in a lot of customers, and we managed to get rid of a ton of items that were destined for the Salvation Army anyways!

I actually sold the entire Barbie bin despite the fact that I had cut a bunch of their hair...

My beloved dollhouse furniture and people were taken home by a family that I know will appreciate it!

One of the best things we did was grouping items together in bins. You can see above how we kept all the picture frames contained in two bins side by side.

The 10 cent bins were a great idea for small items and things we didn't want.

I hung up all the clothing and allowed customers to take the hangers home with them which worked out nicely. We actually sold quite a bit of clothing which surprised me!

I kept track of all our sales to make sure each of us got our fair share! As a family we made about $300! Not bad for four hours of selling items!

Of course there were a ton of items left over- we listed both TVs as free on Craigslist and one has already been picked up. I listed two papasan chairs on Craigslist and also listed a ton of items on Ebay, so hopefully I will sell at least a few of those as well. My personal take home after this yard sale? Just under $100- not bad for decluttering!

Got Swag?!

Since I've been using swagbucks for a couple of weeks now, I thought I'd pop in here with some tips on how to get the most out of your time using this awesome website!

First, head over to www.swagbucks.com to sign up- you'll receive swag bucks simply for signing up!

Once you've signed up there are several easy ways I've found to earn swag bucks:

1. Answer the daily poll- you'll receive 1 swagbuck just for answering one question! 
2. Complete the path of no obligation special offers (NOSO). Just keep clicking on "next offer" or "no thanks" and then enter in a captcha code at the end of the path to receive 2 swag bucks!
3. Surveys. I have found that taking surveys on swagbucks is definitely more worth it then on other survey sites. Often I would find myself taking almost an entire survey on other sites before being rejected. On swagbucks if I am rejected it will happen in a few questions and I will still receive 1 swagbuck for attempting the survey. Often completed surveys give me 50-100 or more swagbucks. So worth it!
4. Watching videos. When I watch videos on swagbucks I rarely pay attention to them, but they play so quickly and the points add up fast!

I'm sure there are many other ways to earn swag bucks but I haven't gotten around to discovering them all yet. I know you can make quite a bit off referrals but I haven't tried that yet!

Right now, after only a couple weeks I have earned over 700 swagbucks, and at 450 you are able to redeem them for a $5 Amazon gift card, 500 gets you other $5 gift cards! I plan on keeping them until my total is up high enough to get a BIG gift card as a reward. 

I think that this could be an amazing way to get your Christmas presents together if you buy a lot of gift cards. You could also use it to purchase gift cards that help with your week to week shopping. You could even purchase amazon gift cards and use those to buy gifts right online! There are tons of ways to use swagbucks to your advantage and I highly recommend you get your butt over there now!

Opinion Outpost

Have you ever heard or used the website Opinion Outpost?

I just recently opened an account and this site will actually pay you for your opinions!

They send you surveys to your e-mail and for each one you collect points and once your reach 100 points you earn $10. Don't worry about it taking long to get to 100 points- I managed to get there in only 2 days of answering surveys. Each survey is worth anywhere from 5-15 points and they don't take a ton of time. It's definitely one of those things you can do while watching tv.

Any time I can earn money for doing something easy- I'm in! =)

I promise they're not paying for me to say this- I wish they were! But this is just my own opinion...I think their website it awesome and you should check it out!

Ebay and Coupons

I have a newfound love for Ebay. I had never really put much stock in Ebay I didn't really care to check  it out. That was until my friend Kristin told me that she had been selling tons of childhood items on there for quite a bit of money so I decided why not give it a try!

I listed 20 items, just random things such as American Girl doll clothes, a pea coat, some boots, and other random things. I sold 6 of them for over  $40! I would have donated these items and received nothing for them! Although I firmly believe in donating items to people who need them but I also think that if you can get a return for the item you purchased that is great too!

The items I sold too were just simple things I had hanging around that I was no longer using!

• an American Girl doll raincoat for $6
• a Magic Attic Club doll gymnastics outfit for $7
• a peacoat for $9.05
• a mini American girl doll for $8
• a sony memory stick for $2.05
• an Iphone case for $10

plus the buyers paid for shipping! 

I have a bunch of items I'm hoping to sell on Ebay because it just makes it so easy to make a little money for my used items!

Coupon Time

• If you have a Dunkin Donuts near you- you should definitely sign up for their rewards program. On their website you can find the link and you get free items from them very frequently. In the past month I have gotten FOUR free coffees. That is about $10 in coupon savings!
• I also saved $5.50 in coupons at Walmart the other day. Just from printing coupons off coupons.com! It truly is a lifesaver and amazing how much you can save on little items that you might need. I would definitely like to get better at couponing so I will continue practicing!
