Paint Touchups

It is a really rainy Monday around here today! We are supposed to have rain and strong winds that could potentially cause a 72 hour power outage so that should really add some interest to this whole quarantine thing! If I don't show up on Wednesday you'll know why :)

Today I'm just sharing a quick project that made our kitchen look a little more put together!

In the kitchen, under our microwave there was a strip that wasn't painted. This is left over from when we moved our cabinets and microwave up a bit and hadn't been touched up since.

It just looked dirty and gross and needed a quick touchup.

I not only had this gross area to touch up (luckily the previous owners left us all the paint that was used- the whole house was repainted right before we moved in), I also wanted to touch up the baseboard where Sophie chewed up a storm.

After I sanded the area, Sophie was very interested in the area again but luckily she wasn't biting the area anymore, just sniffing.

I want to point out that the floor is dirty from the sanding and I didn't vacuum up till after taking pictures so you'll have to ignore my dirty floor!

Now it's not perfect but it's painted and blends in much nicer now! I also had to paint the baseboard opposite of it where she had bitten the baseboard but not nearly as much as the other one.

All painted!

And here is the area below the microwave...

So much better! My painting isn't amazing or anything but as long as it blends in that works for me! Also it's driving me nuts that the dishtowels are uneven in this picture. I will show you why I was distracted during this time....

Someone is a paint sniffer :)

This girl makes me laugh so much and keeps us on our toes every day!

Have a great day everyone!

Guest Room Furniture Projects

Years ago I painted my nightstand and dresser (throwback to 2014, can you believe this blog has been around that long? Dedication my friends, or just a creative outlet for all my organization and home decor stuff that I'm sure my husband doesn't want to hear about constantly).

Anyways, I painted this furniture in 2014 so it was overdue for a touchup! There were marks all over the nightstand and the bottom of the lamp had left fuzz all stuck in the paint.

It looked terrible and although we don't get many guests here (especially now!) I want to make this room look nice.

With just one coat of paint and then a quick second coat on the top of the nightstand it was looking great!

The inside of the drawers was really stained as well so I decided to line the inside with my favorite drawer liner.

I love this simple drawer liner and I think it really brightens up the inside of any drawer or cupboard but I can't for the life of me remember where I got it...

So much better right?! This is the same paint we used on our kitchen cupboards so I knew it would be super bright and that is exactly what I wanted.

The top of the nightstand has never looked better! I love how crisp it is.

Looking at the other side of the room, this is just after painting the dresser. The dresser wasn't as bad as the nightstand but I of course wanted them to match. Also as I painted I saw how much crisper and brighter the new paint is.

As always I highly recommend watching a tv show or movie while doing projects, it makes it go by faster.

So much better! I think this will make a big difference in the look of this room, which I hopefully will be sharing with you guys very soon. I realized I haven't fully shared any of the rooms in our house with you guys yet, so it is on the list of posts to do, I promise!

Have a great day everyone!

Kitchen Paint Touchups

In my ultimate house to do list post I shared that I wanted to get touchups done on the paint in the kitchen. Mostly on the cabinets next to the oven and the little areas above the cabinet where we had raised the cabinet up. I knew neither area needed to be super intensely painted but I just needed it to be the same color as the rest of the cabinets.

When I moved the stove it was pretty gross underneath so I made sure to clean the floor while I was back there.

It's amazing how things get gross so quickly!

Sorry for the blurry picture but this the side of the cabinet where I needed to paint.

Ptimed and ready for some paint!

So much better!

Like I said, it didn't need to be perfect. It just needed to be painted to match the rest of the kitchen and now it does! A lot of our projects are ones to get us buy until bigger redos in the future. I love our white cabinets, but someday we might completely redo our kitchen and that would probably involve all new cabinets. So this project is to hold us over until we can afford a full kitchen renovation. Or until we decide to move or add on one day. Who knows what will happen!

The cabinets look so much better with that small touch up! Now there's no more wood poking out!

Same on this side! Now Tim is just going to touch up the paint under the microwave and the kitchen will be pretty much all set!

What projects did you work on this past weekend?

Matching all of my bedroom furniture

Last fall I spent some time painting my dresser and my bookshelf in my bedroom. I decided that since I was going for a lighter, beachier feel in my room white colored furniture would be the way to go. There are several other pieces of furniture in my bedroom that aren't white- my desk, my jewelry armoire, and my tv stand..however for this project I am focusing on my nightstand.

Just for a heads-up: I don't plan on painting my desk, it is far too large and eventually it won't go in my bedroom so it won't need to match the other pieces. My jewelry armoire is a silver and matches just fine and since it was so expensive I don't ever plan on painting it. Lastly, my tv stand is borrowed from my parents and eventually I plan on replacing it with something white of my own.

So, long story short, I decided to paint my nightstand.

As you can see, it desperately needed a touch up. It was scratched, scraped and covered in crap. I've had this piece since I was in middle school (so we'll say 2000) so it has withstood quite a bit of use.

The first step I took was to sand the entire nightstand. This is my least favorite part by far, I think sandpaper sounds like nails on a chalkboard and I feel sick the entire time I do it. I know, I know I'm such a baby!

Then I painted the entire night stand (including the drawer knobs) and then I  decided that I wanted the drawer knobs to match the knobs on my dresser (meaning a trip to Walmart). So I gave the entire nightstand one coat of paint and left it to dry.

While I waited for the paint to dry I decided I should wash these filthy blinds. Look how gross they are! I got out a bucket of soap water and a rag and went to work cleaning them. Once I had one side cleaned, I flipped them around and did the other side.

Once I had three coats of paint on the nightstand and everything had dried nicely, I set it back up next to my bed (sans the drawers). I also just placed all these items on top quickly and then only left the lamp on top for the night.

I left both drawers out to dry overnight since I didn't want the paint to glue the drawers to the actual nigh stand (that would be a nightmare), but I did organize them, so once it's time to put them back in I will be all set to go.

This is the top drawer. I keep my sleep sprays (gifts) that I like to spray on my pillows before bedtime, some lotion, hand sanitizer, my Polaroid camera (blast from the past eh?), a sleep mask I like to use when I have headaches because it warms up in the microwave), a small flashlight, extra chapstick, floss, a small mirror, my fitness journal, my daily journal, and my Kindle.

In the bottom drawer I keep all my hair brushes, a few clips, hair straightener, blow dryer, curling iron, and a few hair products.

Doesn't it look so pretty?!

Bookshelf Before and After!

I'm popping on here quick today to show you before and afters of my bookshelf- which is officially done! So here we go!

I arranged the bookshelf in exactly the same way as before, but it's amazing what a little paint will do! I think it looks absolutely gorgeous and I love staring at that side of my bedroom!

Got to go finishing re-reading Catching Fire....since I'm going to see it at 10 tonight! =)

Weekend Recap and More Projects...

Hey everybody! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

I had self-proclaimed this weekend as one where I wouldn't do much of anything, have lots of time to myself and be able to relax a little bit...well we all know how that goes! Despite having a busy weekend, it was still a pretty good one!

On Saturday I went to see About Time with Rachel (TheShorelineBride) which was a strange, but really good movie. If you haven't seen it and are looking for a chick flick/date night movie then definitely check this one out! It was definitely a tear-jerker at times, but I managed to control myself =)

Sunday, we were hit with some sad news, my papa's girlfriend Vivian had a mini-stroke. Luckily she is okay but is going for testing and hopefully they will find out something that will help.
We were able to have some family time on Sunday, to celebrate my Uncle Craig's birthday at Mystic Pizza.

It was nice to get together with Papa and Uncle Craig and the kids. Especially since I haven't seen them in so long!

What else did I complete this weekend? Well after finishing up my dresser last week, it was clear that I had the painting bug...so I moved on to the next piece of furniture...my bookshelf!

This is what it looked like before. I love the look of my shelves right now..the arrangement of the books is orderly, yet pretty. I know exactly where the book I'm looking for is located, but they are arranged by height as well which makes it visually appealing.

I took a close up picture of each shelf so I will know how to put these shelves back together after I'm done with this project...

I really have been making quite a mess of my room lately. I still haven't finished my dresser project and now I'm adding the mess from my bookshelf project to the floor!

One coat later and a streaky mess. It always looks so disappointing after one coat of paint...

After two coats, I laid the bookshelf on it's side so I could get to the underneath parts of the shelf a little bit easier...

After three coats, it looks so much better!

I used the same white Behr Martha Stewart paint to re-paint this bookshelf and think it looks great! I now have half the furniture in my room white and half is wood. I'm hoping to eventually have all white bedroom furniture since that is a look I absolutely love.

My desk will not be painted because eventually one day I will have an office and the desk will no longer be in my bedroom =)

I have to wait a few days (or a week) to put all my books and items back on my bookshelf because I really don't want to ruin any of my books! So for now, my room is a complete disaster...and I have more projects on my mind...

What projects are you working on lately? Any painting going on where you are?
