Brunette Ambition by Lea Michele

A few weeks ago I  saw Lea Michele on The Dr. Oz show and heard she had written a book so I thought I would give it a try.

Brunette Ambition by Lea Michele is an interesting array of personal stories, information about some of Lea's favorite things and tales from her professional life. I have always liked Lea Michele. I thought she had a beautiful voice and felt so sad for her when her on screen/off screen boyfriend Cory Monteith passed last year. I wanted to read her personal stories and hear about her life from the only view that really matters, her own.

I enjoyed quite a few of Lea's stories. She shared quite a bit about her childhood and her rise to fame on the Broadway scene. I also liked reading about her experiences on Glee and what a typical day on the set was like for her and the other actors. I also liked hearing about her personal life in Los Angeles. Lea appears to be an extremely private person with a low-key lifestyle. I think I would get along with her really well, seeing that she prefers to have a low key night at home over a wild night at  the club.

The only part of the book I wasn't a huge fan of were the sections where she shared recipes. Lea shared recipes for her daily meals, face masks, etc and I just wasn't looking for that in this book. I wanted to read more about her; not what she eats!

Overall, I would say if you are a huge fan of Lea Michele this is a great book to read. If you are just somewhat a fan I would still read it but I don't think it's worth the money of actually purchasing it. If you aren't a fan of Lea Michele, I wouldn't read this because it really is mostly about her.

Have you read any books you weren't 100% sold on lately?

May Birchbox Review

Since I received my Birchbox a little bit late last month my review is a little late as well- but I'm ready to share my reviews with you, so here we go!

This first bloom candle is wayyyy too floral for me. The candle itself is nice enough, but I don't care for the scent at all. I am not in to floral scents, I prefer to have something a bit lighter but it was still nice to get a candle inside my box since it's something I've never received in a Birchbox before!

I like this Cotz product but wasn't really impressed with it. It didn't mess with my skin, but also didn't do anything really great for it. I wouldn't purchase a full size of this product but would try it again if I got it for free.

I had previously used Beauty Protector products, but not these particular ones. I liked the shampoo and conditioner, they had a great scent and seemed to work fine in my hair. I didn't particularly love them. The conditioner didn't make my hair as soft and silky as some other conditioners do, but it was pretty good. I wouldn't purchase these in full size only because I have other products that I like better and are able to get for free.

I wasn't sure about this Pixi lip product because I am pretty much exclusively a Burts Bees chapstick girl. I wasn't a huge fan of the color I received but the product was nice enough. My lips felt a little dry but they always seem to when I use anything except my Burts Bees.

So that's all I received in my box this month! Remember, if you received a Birchbox you can review it on the website in order to receive 10 points for each product you review! The points add up quickly and you can use them to purchase items in the Birchbox store!

Have you tried any new products recently?

Weekly Couponing Wrapup

Before I start with my couponing wrapup- I just wanted to remind you that today is National Donut Day- so head out there and get your free donut! I will be getting mine at Dunkin Donuts =)

It was a pretty slow week couponing for me, I wasn't really feeling most of the deals out there so I just picked up a few things.

At CVS...

1 Gillette Venus Razor @ $7.99
used $3/1 coupon
Paid $4.99, received $2 back in ECBs.

3 Gelusil Chewables @ $2 each, $6 total
used three $2/1 coupons
Paid $0

1 Colgate Toothpaste @ $3
used $1 man coupon, and $2 CVS coupon
Paid $0

I also used a $4 ECB in this transition.  I paid $2.18 ($1.19 was tax), received $2 back in ECB.

At Walgreens....

1 Colgate Mouthwash @ $3.49
used $1/1 coupon
Paid $2.49, received $2.50 back in Register Rewards

I paid $2.73 total (including the 24 cents in tax) and received $2.50 back in Register Rewards.

Not bad deals at all!

For freebies in the mail this week...

Another kit from U By Kotex= free pads.
I also received two small bottles of Listerene: One to my house and one to my dads PO Box.

A small sample of Eucerin lotion.

A sample of Rachel Ray cat food (and coupon) which I will be giving to my friend with a cat.

I applied for this because my mom loves birds and I thought it would get a good laugh- but she handed it over to my dad which I thought was even more hilarious =)

Did you get any great deals this week? I plan on doing quite a bit of couponing next week in order to restock my stockpile and get more items for a family friend in need.

Have a great weekend everybody!

Project 365: Week 22

It was a busy week around here!

Day 149- A prime example of why organization is so important! My dad was searching for key in this mess!

Day 150 was a long day with terrible allergies- so bad that I needed my glasses and clearly a coffee.

Day 151 I took my first trip to The Container Store, which you probably read about here. It was amazing and I can't wait to go back!

Day 152, I had a graduation party to attend and got to hang out with my friend Kayla's little boy!

Day 153- Considering joining NAPO! I also decided to set up a business. You can now hire me for organizational services here

I organized my bathroom on day 154 with the products I bought at The Container Store. =)

Day 155, I wanted to share this because I filled a box full with items for a family friend who really needs the help right now. It is so important to share when you coupon. I think that this is the best part of couponing, helping someone who really needs it.

How was your week?

Small Tweaks, Big Results

I made a small tweak in my DVD collection that just makes everything look so much nicer!

So last time you saw my DVD collection here I had just changed it from keeping all my DVDs in cases to DVD sleeves. It not only decreased the amount of storage I needed to hold my collection- it looks a lot more organized this way.

So, everything was fine, nothing really needed to be changed.

Then....I thought about how much prettier it would look with some washi tape....

Still organized and simple, but definitely a lot nicer looking! Sometimes small tweaks are exactly what is needed =)

Have you changed anything about your organizing systems lately?

My First Visit To The Container Store = An Organized Bathroom

Believe it or not, I had never been in The Container Store.

I've ordered from them online, but until recently there wasn't a store in Rhode Island. There is a store in Connecticut as well as in Massachusetts but neither were exactly in places I'd normally head to. I heard a few months ago that The Container Store was coming to Cranston, RI and actually misread the date and thought it was opening in March. Well, soon I realized that it actually said May so I would have to wait a little bit longer. This past Saturday I finally got to go inside!

Photo: Day 151. Pretty sure I've died and gone to organization heaven!!! First time in the container store!!! #project365

Of course I had to buy some stuff. How could I not?

Photo: I will not

I can't contain my excitement. I will not!

Now, I bought some items to help with my current bathroom situation. If you don't know I currently share a bathroom with my brother who isn't exactly the neatest person in the world. I also didn't get to  decorate this bathroom- so it's not necessarily styled the way I would decorate a bathroom. However, I decided it would be nice to bring in a few little things that reflect my style.

Here's what we started with:

A little messy, not the greatest looking it's ever been. Enter the new products!

From The Container Store I purchased three acrylic jars and a white tray. None of these are breakable which is the most important part. I am a klutz and regularly drop things =)

I'm sure you're curious where these items went in my bathroom...so here we go with the *after* pictures..

The jars are now located on the wicker shelf. I have a teal bucket holding all my small shower gels. The small jar holds q-tips, the medium one holds cotton rounds, and the largest one holds all different size soaps. I love the way it looks now- simple but pretty at the same time!

Now, I'll give you a look inside my drawers and how I have them organized currently. They are constantly changing and evolving with what I currently need on hand. Do your bathroom drawers constantly change?

My top drawer holds my toothpaste, my rechargeable toothbrush, and a couple of other toothbrushes. I also have my EOS shaving cream in here since you can use it when your legs are dry which is great!

The second drawer is the one that holds some shower gels and hair products. The shower gels are just spare ones that I am keeping as backups, while the hair products are ones I tend to use when I'm in the bathroom and have wet hair or need to touch up my hair and get rid of flyways.

My bottom drawer holds all my "girly" products. 'Nuff said, right?

Now for that white tray I bought...

It now sits on my countertop holding hand soap, face wash, and eye makeup remover pads. All the essentials =)

Pretty pretty!

I also have a nice cleaned out cupboard too! The cleaning products are all underneath the sink. This cupboard was filled with toilet paper after this picture was taken- but it's definitely nice to have hidden storage for the good ole TP.

Finally, I'd like to show you how I keep my products in my shower...

I keep a lot of products in my shower but since everything is organized I know exactly where everything is.

How is your bathroom organized? How many products do you keep in your shower?

Have a great day everybody!

Spring Empties!

Wow, I feel like I just started filling my huge Nordstrom bag with products a few days ago. I was shocked with how heavy this bag is and how many products were inside from the last three months!

I gathered them together and sorted by product type so I can share my reviews with you today.

I went through SEVEN candles this month! I did use up three mini sizes, since they had been hanging around for quite awhile.

Bath and Body Works Palm Beach Cooler- This is my all-time favorite Bath and Body Works summertime candle. This candle smells just like a nice beach day with a fruity drink. Unfortunately I did not see this candle for sale this year, meaning it was probably discontinued- bummer. I hate when they get rid of things I love!

Bath and Body Works Lavendar Vanilla- I received this candle as a Christmas present and it was nice smelling but definitely not something I would buy for myself. It was a soothing, florally scent which is not what I usually go for =)

Bath and Body Works Tiki Beach- I liked this scent, it smelled of the beach, but didn't have a super strong scent. I would prefer a more potent candle to this one. The reason might be because the mini candles don't have a great scent throw- but I probably won't be purchasing this one in the future.

Bath and Body Works Caribbean Escape- This is another candle that I absolutely love. This has a fruity beach scent- more focused on the fruity side. I would definitely repurchase this in the future. I believe I saw it at Bath and Body Works this year, so it looks like it will still be around.

Diamond Candles Watermelon Wedge- I love love love Diamond Candles! These soy based candles are amazing- and really make the entire house smell wonderful. This particular candle had a great watermelon scent, not a fake scent but a true watermelon scent. This is the second time I've burned through one of the watermelon scents and definitely won't be the last time!

Diamond Candles Hawaiian Coconut- This was another awesome candle. I love this scent and would definitely repurchase it. It smells like a sunscreen, coconut, and sand. The perfect beach day =)

Candles by Victoria Edward Cullen- I had never tried a Candles by Victoria candle and was really interested to check it out. This one in particular was WAYYY too floral for me. The candle was so strong that if it had been a scent I liked I probably would have enjoyed it, but this was just not my candle. As much as I love Edward Cullen... I don't love the way this candle smells...sorry Edward!

Tresemme Shampoo and Conditioner- I literally hate this junk. It is awful, awful, awful. My hair is very dry, and this shampoo and conditioner made my hair feel oily. I will never purchase this again, that is a promise.

Macadamia Deep Repair Masque- I keep repurchasing this because I love it so much. I like to use this when I know I need my hair to behave. This weighs it down and makes it silky smooth, while also making it smell fabulous.

Davines Shampoo and Conditioner- I will not purchase this in the future, it made my hair feel dry, stringy and yucky.

Pantene Pro-V Shampoo and Conditioner- This is a shampoo and conditioner that I would definitely consider repurchasing in the future. It seems to work well for my hair, making it nice and soft.

Peter Thomas Roth Shampoo and Conditioner- There was nothing special about this shampoo and conditioner at all. It wasn't special- nothing bad or nothing great. I picked this up at a hotel and figured I might as well try it, but I wouldn't purchase a full size of it.

Garnier Shampoo and Conditioner (two different types)- These were both okay, not something I would purchase- but it's always nice to try different shampoo and conditioner samples.

Kiems Shampoo- I previously reviewed this product here.

Beauty Protector Oil- I previously reviewed this product here.

Blonde Me Purple Shampoo- This shampoo definitely helps with the brassy-ness of my hair. My hairdresser recommended this product to me and actually picked it up for me. I'm glad she recommended it to me- because it has helped my hair a lot.

John Frieda Frizz Ease Shampoo, Conditioner, and Soothing Creme- This trio is something I was sent two sets of as a free sample. I really liked this trio and if I managed to find a decent deal on it, I would definitely consider purchasing it in the future.

Clear Therapy Shampoo- I love this shampoo and continue to repurchase it. I like the philosophy behind this brand, where healthily hair begins at the scalp. It seems to work well for me.

Bath and Body Works Warm Vanilla Sugar Scrub- I loved using this scrub and want to buy these to go with all my Bath and Body Works scents. I really felt like all the dead skin was disappearing from my skin while I used it. I really felt super clean and refreshed after using this!

Philosophy Sweet Talk Shower Gel- This was a nice shower gel, a really nice scent. I think this was a limited edition scent though, so I won't be purchasing it in the future unless they come out with it again.

Gilchrist and Soames Spa Therapy Shower Gel- Previously reviewed here.

Lush Snow Fairy Shower Gel- I loved this shower gel, it was amazing. If you love Lush you know that this is a highly sought after limited edition Christmas scent which I will definitely be purchasing next holiday season!

Michael Todd Exfoliant Scrub- previously reviewed here.

Organic hair and body gel- This smelled okay. I used it as a shower gel (it was from a French hotel) but there was not much in the container at all!

Bath and Body Works Vanilla Bean Noel Hand Soap- I love this scent, it is one of the best hand soap scents I've ever purchased. I will definitely repurchase this in the future.

Bath and Body Works Twisted Peppermint Hand Soap- This hand soap scent was okay. Definitely not my favorite, but it wasn't too bad. I was definitely a little sick of it towards the end though and couldn't wait to get out a new soap.

Victoria's Secret Strawberries and Champagne Lotion- I received this lotion years ago as a gift and tried it a few times and was never a huge fan. I decided to use up the remainder in order to finish it up. I liked it enough, but I won't repurchase it in the future.

100% Pure Coconut Lotion- One of my favorite lotions ever. Not only is this lotion natural but it worked great on my skin. I purchased this with Birchbox points a few months back, but I plan on purchasing it again in the future!

Jergens Original Scent (two containers of it)- I wasn't a huge fan of Jergens almond scent, it lingered on my skin in a weird way but if I got it for free again in the future, then I definitely would use it!

Bath and Body Works Oahu Coconut Sunset Lotion- From the new Hawaii line at Bath and Body Works, I absolutely loved this lotion. I am obsessive about anything that smells like coconut, and this lotion definitely did the trick.

Bath and Body Works Japanese Cherry Blossom Lotion- This lotion was in my purse forever and I was so thankful to finally be done with it. The japanese cherry blossom smell is definitely not my favorite scent from BBW, so I won't be purchasing anything from that scent line in the future.

Arbonne FYI Lotion- This lotion was disgustingly greasy. I would never purchase a full size of it.

G Spa Lotion- Yuck, this lotion was a free sample from a hotel and it was so watery I couldn't stand it. I will never use it again.

Origins Ginger Body Souffle- I don't even thing this can be considered a lotion- it was so lovely! I would purchase gallons and gallons of this if I could afford to. It is so rich, creamy and amazing.

Nivea Body Lotion (3 samples)- This is such a nice, creamy lotion and it smells so nice. I would purchase this in the full size without question. This is one of my favorite lotions for sure!

Eucerin Body Lotion (2 samples)- All of these samples were great- I would definitely recommend Eucerin lotion because it seems to work great on my dry skin. It's neither watery or greasy, and I will definitely purchase it full size.

9 Tubes of Burts Bees Chapstick- I love this stuff, as I mentioned before. I can't help my obsession =)

Revlon Black Liquid Eyeliner- This was just a typical black liquid eyeliner. I liked it, but unfortunately it dried up and I had to toss it.

Covergirl LashBlast Length Mascara- This mascara was okay. I purchased it on clearance meaning that it was probably slightly old, which meant that it ended up drying out really quickly. It went on really nicely though, no clumps or wetness which was great.

Covergirl Lash Blast Mascara- I love this mascara so much that I went through two tubes of it and am currently working on another. It is definitely my favorite mascara around since it is very dry mascara. I hate wet mascara, and this one does not run and also doesn't clump up on my lashes.

Almay Eye Makeup Remover Pads- I had two different types and I can tell you I only like the ones that are oil free. The ones with oil leave gross oily film on my eyelids, where the oil free ones seem to be water-based and I really like them. I have a ton in my stockpile, but I will definitely repurchase them in the future.

Yes To Cucumbers Makeup Remover Pads- These pads stung my face a little bit, but definitely got all of my makeup off in the process. I wouldn't seek them out but if I got them for free again, I would definitely use them.

Nicole Perfume- This perfume was definitely not something I would ever purchase for myself. It was very strong and although I'm terrible at describing scents- it was just something I'm not interested in.

Burberry Body Perfume- I liked this perfume, but it was definitely a strong night time scent. I would potentially purchase this if I didn't have a ton of perfume waiting to be used up.

Crest Pro Health Mouthwash- I love this mouthwash. Previously I was using Listerene and just recently switched to Crest. I think Crest tastes a lot better then Listerene but I still feel like it gets the job done well!

Vaseline Bath Salts- These were decent bath salts. I enjoyed them but I didn't think they were the best thing I've ever used in the bathtub. I prefer more of a bubble bath to bath salts, so I wouldn't necessarily purchase them in the future.

Jasmine Foot Wipes- These are something I had hanging around from an old Birchbox and needed to use up. I would never waste my money on these, they are just like typical wipes- nothing special!

Ulta MD Skincare Sunscreen-This sunscreen was fine. Typical sunscreen!

Garnier Clean Exfoliator- I liked this exfoliator, even though it wasn't technically for dry skin- it seemed to work great. I don't know if I would necessarily purchase it because I have other products I like better, but I will definitely keep Garnier on my radar.

NatureMade VitaMelts Energy- These were a great way to have a little extra energy every day and were really tasty. They tasted like fruity candy and I would definitely purchase them again in the future.

Johnson's Baby Shampoo- I use this to clean my makeup brushes and it works really well. I will purchase this in the future to continue cleaning my brushes.

Pretty Nails Polish Remover- This was the worst nail polish remover I've used yet. It just left a lot of icky stuff on my fingers. I wouldn't purchase this again (although I'm not sure where this came from in the first place...) but I finished it up.

Careone Nail Polish Remover- I liked this nail polish remover, although I'm usually not picky about nail polish remover. It didn't leave anything on my fingers so I wouldn't be against purchasing it in the future.

So that is all the products I used throughout the spring! I used 79 products total which is crazy, but I think it's because I worked on using up a lot of my samples. I'm interested to see how many products I use up in the summer.

What products have you used up lately?
