Our Guest Bedroom

Getting real today!

Our guest bedroom is nothing special. The furniture in it is the furniture I grew up with in my bedroom. The mattress is on the floor and it's Tim's old mattress (although super comfortable!) 

I store my vacuum fleet (yes, I have more than one vacuum and I want more...) in this room. The decor is just kind of thrown in there. 

So yes, nothing special. But to be honest we haven't ever hosted anyone in this room. This is a three bedroom house and when we turned one room into an office, we set up the second bedroom as a guest room. Eventually if we have kids I imagine this becoming a nursery. But for now it's just an extra bedroom in case someone spends the night!

When you first walk in the door you see the dresser with the tv and DVD player on top and my vacuum fleet. Also a signed Gronk picture that is making me a little sad lately.

As you can see this was just a typical day where I didn't clean up for you for pictures. #keepingitreal 

Donations and items listed on poshmark were just sitting on the bed.  

I love this ladder bookshelf but there just wasn't room for it in our living room so I stuck it in here. Maybe if we renovate someday or if we move it will fit out in our living room again. Do you keep furniture even if it doesn't work for you currently?

Living Room Updates

Hi again! Today I'm showing you some living room updates we made! Every corner of our house is a work in progress and I'm quickly learning that even when I say something is "done" I mean "done for now" 

If you are on Instagram check out MyTexasHouse who has a house that is GOALS but also continually is changing things which just goes to show that even when your house looks perfect you can still want to change things up!

So today is all about our living room updates. I finally convinced Tim to hang up our Etsy sign from Pallettes and Peonies. I saw this originally on The SunnySide Up blog and absolutely loved it. 

We debated where on the wall to place it but ended up going just about center. I am considering putting a shelf on either side of the sign but I haven't fully decided yet. I just don't want it to look overcrowded, I much prefer a very simple and clean look.

This is what the view of it looks like from the kitchen. Very simple but at least there is something on the wall now!

The other new update in our living room is our new coffee table....

Instead of the bulky, wooden top coffee table now we have a smaller, bright white table. I love that it matches our small table from At Home.

I picked up this new coffee table at Wayfair and I'm so glad it helped pull the room together.

Sophie just loves to jump in every picture that I take of the house :)

I think this coffee table fits the space much better than the other one did. It also is a lot lighter weight and just brightens up the whole living room.

I also pulled Sophie's old bed out of the living room. Girl doesn't need two beds in the living room right?! We also picked up a new bin from HomeGoods to hold some of her toys because her toy bin was overflowing! Little spoiled pup.

I don't feel like this room is complete at all despite getting a new rug, new table and new wall art in here. I definitely am considering another small table and lamp in the back corner by the side of the couch. Like I mentioned before I am still figuring out if I want anything else on the wall. I also still want to change out the fan, which is a project for another day.

We have been living without coasters for awhile in fear that Sophie would eat them. While at HomeGoods I found marble coasters that are super heavy. I know that Sophie won't be able to eat them and they look great and fit into the aesthetic that I'm going for.

While I look at the pictures I can see how badly our couch needs to be cleaned, I desperately need to order a steam cleaner.

Here you can see our new toy bin how much less crowded it is with only one bed! I still am figuring out how I want to set everything up. I know I keep saying that everything isn't complete but I'm sure everyone is feeling the same about their own homes. In this picture you can also see our new little door mat that I picked up from Amazon. I actually picked up two of these and put one by the kitchen side door as well. I'm not 100% sold on them but they were only $17 a piece so they work for now!

Here are the marble coasters from HomeGoods. They are heavy and solid and work great!

Clearly someone is interested in them :)

Ultimate House To Do List: Exterior Edition

On Monday I shared our interior ultimate house to do list and today we are chatting about our exterior list. As you saw on Monday there are a ton of things we want to do inside the house but I wanted to share what we hope to do outside our home. Our house sits on a little over an acre and we have a LOT of yard. Years ago this lot was covered in trees and the previous owner cut down almost all of them. We have a huge front yard which is nice in some ways but we definitely have plans for our yard to make it a little bit nicer.

Our Exterior To Do List

• New Grass: Luckily my husband sells turf for a living and we might be able to get this done fairly inexpensively. 
• Front Walkway: There is no walkway from our driveway to our front door and having one would be so nice. Right now you go down the front steps directly into the grass. I would love to have a nice walkway with gardens on either side.
• Sugar Maple Tree: I plan to plant a sugar maple tree in the front yard because they are absolutely gorgeous in the fall and I desperately want one!
• Gardens: I want to completely change the front gardens and create a garden along the side of the house. 

I would love to have evergreens here so it would be green year round. Right now the plants look great in the summer but everything is so dead and dull in the winter. Having the evergreens would give it a nicer look year round.

• Window boxes: I think window boxes would look great on the front of our house! I have seen simple directions on how to make them yourself so it's something I am thinking about taking on as a project. 
• Move the Fire Pit: Right now the fire pit is exactly in the center of our backyard. I would like to buy a fire pit kit from Home Depot and put it together closer to the back of our yard, away from the house and more out of the way. I have dreams of a fire pit surrounded by small rocks and Adirondack chairs....

• Fenced In Backyard: We would love to fence in our backyard for Sophie! This would make letting her out much easier since we could let her run around on her own.
• Install Lattice Under Deck: Sophie loves going under the deck. We bought lattice but haven't installed it yet. 
• Refinish Deck: Our deck desperately needs to be refinished. Our plan is to do this in the spring. 

• Buy A Shed: Having a shed would be great! We need one that has a ramp for our lawn mower and I would love to store shovels and gardening tools out there.
• Buy A Patio Set and Outdoor Rug: I'm dreaming of a cute little set sitting on the deck! I am going to keep my eyes peeled for sales.
• Buy A Grill: Done! It's boxed up still in our basement, but we have it! Also, thanks to my parents Tim received a ton of grilling tools. 

Right now that is our to do list for our house! We will definitely be working on some of these this spring and I can't wait to share with you how it turns out.

Officially Home

Guys. We are officially home. 

This weekend was a total whirlwind! On Friday Tim left work early to meet the internet hookup guy at our new house so we wouldn't spend time without wifi. While he waited he finished cleaning up from our kitchen cabinet painting project (coming soon I promise!), and reattached all the doors and drawers. Once I was out of work I hurried back to the apartment to meet him so we could pick up our 16 foot Penske rental truck.

We took the truck back to our apartment and started loading it up! Derek arrived to help us pretty much right away and we were so thankful to have his help. Shawn arrived shortly after and we got the entire truck plus three cars full of stuff and decided just to bring everything down to the house and get it unloaded.

While we were unloading Brit, Stephen and their girls stopped by to visit! By the time we unloaded everything it was super late but Derek and Shawn hung out for awhile and had some beers and pizza before they headed home and we crashed!

Since we got most of the boxes moved and quite a bit of the furniture on Friday night, Saturday was a lot more manageable. With the help of Derek, Ally, and Fred we loaded up the truck once more and four cars! I seriously have NO idea where we accumulated so much stuff. I really thought we were pretty minimalistic but OH MY GOD there was so much stuff. I have some serious decluttering to do.

We said goodbye to our apartment which honestly was a little sad. We lived here for almost 3.5 years. Some of you might have been following along that entire time. Remember when we moved in?

We have a lot of memories here but I am so happy to be in our new home and to start a brand new chapter!

After leaving our keys behind we headed down to the house and got everything else unloaded. My brother Dan stopped by to help and Tim's sister Brit came by to see the house. We also had Fred's girlfriend Marissa join us later in the night. We had a fire with the desk that had fallen apart from my childhood and all of the cardboard boxes that had accumulated.

It was so nice to hang out with everyone and we are so thankful for all of their help.

On Sunday I did a ton of unpacking but honestly it was such an exhausting weekend I may have also laid down for a bit!

We have a million projects to do and I will be sharing everything with you guys! Just please be patient with me while I get settled :)

We Bought A House!

Happy Monday Friends!

This week is particularly exciting because it's the week we will move into our first house!

We officially closed on our first home last Thursday September 12th! I can't even begin to describe how excited we are to finally be in a home of our own. After living in an apartment for 3.5 years, searching for a home for two years, and then impatiently waiting through the whole loan process we are more than ready to finally move in.

We received our keys at the closing on Thursday and immediately headed over to the house to walk through it. We basked in our home ownership and found all the cute presents the former owners had left behind for us.

We ended up both going back to work for a few hours in the afternoon and then met back up at the house later on. We had visits from both my parents, and our new neighbors who happen to be my best friend Rachel's parents.

Our plan for this week is to finish up a project we started in the kitchen, and then move in Friday/Saturday! Next week at this time I will be sitting on this couch in a whole new location!

New House Haul

Good morning everyone!

Today I wanted to share a few things I picked up for our new house! I've been slowly buying things but it's definitely a process. I know there are many things we won't pick up until we actually move into the house and have a space to put them but this is what I've gotten so far.

These two mats were ordered on Amazon and I am obsessed with them! I will be using them at our front door at the new house. I think we will be entering in and out the side door so I need to find another mat for that door but I knew I wanted a home sweet home mat at the front door.

New house means it's time for a new bathroom trash can right? This woven basket is from Target and I think it will look great in our bathroom. Right now we have a darker wastebasket and I am ready to lighten things up.

This sign is on order from Etsy and I am obsessed with it!! It carries so much meaning to me because after all this time it will be so good to finally be home in a house we own!

Last weekend I was at Hobby Lobby and picked up this sign as soon as I saw it I knew it was coming home with me. I'm not sure where it will go yet but I love it!

I purchased this lady bird runner from Amazon but it's all rolled up to make it easier to transport to the house so I don't have a good picture of it. This picture is the full sized rug picture off Amazon but you get the idea. I ordered the runner and my plan is to put it in my hallway. I'm so excited to see how it looks!

Presidents Day Lunch Date, New House Purchases and New Boots!

Having a three day weekend is the best. I love having that extra day to just relax! 

Lucky for me Tim works nights so I was able to enjoy hanging out with him for most of the day! After spending the ENTIRE morning sleeping in (whoops) we ventured out for a low key lunch date and a quick Walmart trip.

I tried a new Applebees dish minus the gravy that was offered as a topping. This is the Crispy Brewhouse Chicken and I love the onion rings, mashed potatoes, and chicken combined! Tim has had it with the gravy before and said it has a beer flavor so I probably wouldn't enjoy it, but he liked it with the gravy.

Tim enjoyed boneless buffalo wings, nachos and a plate of fries (unpictured).

It was a lovely lunch date!

Obsessed with this catch-all tray from this months Pop Sugar Must Have Box. I obsess over it every time I see it.

So we've been buying a few items for our new place. We are moving out in May and I recently purchased a shower curtain and shower curtain liner at Walmart. Then this weekend I went to Kohls and bought all new towels and bathroom mat. I love the pattern and gray color I chose and Tim seemed to like it too!

Also I'm obsessed with my new boots! Thanks to Sam over at Simply Organized for mentioning them. I had to order them. And now I own them. And I will wear them everyday. Obsessed.
