Rainbow Race 10K!

Well my 10K didn't go exactly as planned, friends. I ended up running 5.6 miles of it, skipping a small portion of it and choosing to walk a bit because I was not having it. My running friend, Kaitlin was a great sport and stuck with me through the entire race- I could not be more appreciative of her for helping me out and getting me to the finish line.

I would have loved to run the entire  6.2 miles but I am still in so much pain so I'm glad I didn't. I think there are a few reasons I had such a problem with this race, first off- my training was awful- I was such a slacker! Second, when I actually did train I only ran on the treadmill, not outside and I trained late at night. Not being used to running in the morning definitely hurt me this time around.

I wish I had been able to do the entire race and I am awful disappointed in myself but hopefully I'll be able to do another one in the future. I need to find a workout schedule that works for me- perhaps running long distances is not the cards for me.

Oh well, I'll keep you updated on future running situations- but I will be resting my legs for a little bit thanks to that awful run....

Running/Exercise Update

Seeing that my 10K race is just a little over a week away, I figured I would pop on here and let you know how my running is going.

I officially made 4 miles on Sunday night, meaning that I am well on my way. I plan on doing another long run this Sunday followed by shorter runs as the week goes on.

I am super excited about my race next Saturday- but am really nervous as well.

I have been reading some 10K race tips lately and here are few great places I have found tips:

A Workout/Running Update

Hey everyone- I wanted to mention my progress with exercising and running! Last time when I wrote about this, I mentioned that I was having trouble getting started and getting on a regular workout plan. I finally have found a plan and system that works. I based it on Hal Higdon's Novice 10K program, which seems to work well for me.

Monday: Stretch and Strengthen- I work on something like yoga or dance, that helps with my flexibility. I also try to lift weights or do some sort of strengthening exercise.

Tuesday: Run

Wednesday: Cross Training- Usually I pop in an aerobic DVD...

Thursday: Run

Friday: off

Saturday: Cross Training

Sunday: Longer Run

This plan has been working well over the last week for me, I like having Friday's off because that is my longest work day and it's nice to not have to worry about working out.

I've also been writing down all my exercise and eating habits in a journal-which is extremely helpful because sometimes it stops me from eating those extra oreo cookies =)

Lately some of my workouts have been looking like this....

My runs weren't great at first. I was running in short spurts, getting exhausted and then walking for periods of time. I wasn't getting far at all. It was frustrating and I was so angry.

I took that aggression out by doing some lifting exercises and doing different things around our home gym.

My Sunday run was much better, I ended up running 2 miles of this 2.5, it took me a long time and I didn't run FAST, but I ran most of it...

I have a little under a month to get up to 6.2 miles...I'm going to keep working until I get to my goal! =)

What are your exercise goals lately? Anyone got any good ones?
