Cleaning After Sickness

Have you been sick yet this winter? Unfortunately the flu hit our house last week AND Sophie was spayed and is recovering from her surgery.. .meaning my house has become a disaster which I absolutely cannot stand.

Let me paint a picture for you....

Tuesday: Sophie gets spayed. Tim and Melissa decide the best thing for her is to sleep on the couch in the living room. Blankets are laid across the floor along with Sophie's bed to make everything comfortable for her. Melissa and Tim are up half the night with a crying dog who is in pain :(

Wednesday: Tim wakes up super sick. Sophie still in recovery.

Thursday: Tim even worse. Sophie now has energy and it's tough to keep her calm and resting.

Friday: Melissa joins in with the sickness. Tim is miserable. Sophie wants to play but no one will play with her they are trying to make her rest.

Saturday: Tim still sick, Melissa feels worse than the day before, Sophie is still angry no one will play and can't sit still.

Sunday: Tim feels better, Melissa still down for the count, Sophie still irritated no one will play.

....and here we are!

Now my plan this week is to get all the sickness out of our house. Obviously there's not too much we can do with Sophie who is still in a cone until next week when she has her sutures removed but we are going to try to get as many germs out of the house as possible.

I started cleaning over the weekend even when I felt pretty horrible because I knew that getting things clean would definitely help.

  • Wash all things linen!
This involves any clothing, bedding, towels, etc that you have come in contact with while sick. I washed everything from our clothing to Sophie's blankets. I generally do all the laundry on the weekend anyways but I made sure to include everything I thought might be slightly infected. Changing your pajamas often can help as well as things like blankets and pillowcases.

  • New Toothbrushes
I coupon and get new toothbrushes all the time for free so the moment we feel better after being sick we change out our toothbrushes. No one wants that yucky toothbrush full of germs back in their mouth.

  • Disinfect all Surfaces (Including Doorhandles!)
I looooove my Clorox wipes and although I usually just use them in the bathroom but after we've been sick I wipe down every surface with them. Everything from our kitchen counters to our doorhandles to our cell phones...no germs will survive.

  • Take out Trash/ Recycling
When we are sick we get super lazy and tend to let the trash and recycling build up. We also got a ton of packages last week so there was quite a bit to bring out to the outdoor bins.

  • Vacuum and Mop!
I love to vacuum and mop regularly but this is a quick and easy way to get germs out of your house. There's always stuff all over the floor that we track in the house on our shoes. Vacuum it all up and mop down the floors to give it a good scrubbing.

  • Bathrooms
For some reason it seems like bathrooms always have a ton of germs in them. I make sure to clean ours really well.

  • Open The Windows!
It was far too cold this weekend to open the windows but this week its supposed to warm up a bit and you better believe we will be letting in some fresh air!

Now, I want to know....  what are the number one things you clean once you finally feel better? If we had kids I think I would be disinfecting toys and washing stuffed animals!

Happy Superbowl Sunday!

Just a quick post today- I'm still feeling pretty horrible from this cold. It has me completely run down and unable to keep up with my normal everyday activities!

I was so happy yesterday because my faith was restored in that little furry groundhog- I always complain when he predicts a longer winter because I just don't understand his system! If he can see his shadow then shouldn't it be a bright sunny day?! I don't understand it! Thank goodness he predicted an early spring- I don't know how much more of this winter weather I can take...

Also, Happy Superbowl Sunday everybody! I hope you are all enjoying a nice relaxing day- ready to watch the game with your friends and family. My team (the Patriots) didn't quite make it to the Superbowl but I'm ready to cheer on the 49ers because I don't hate them quite as much as I hate the Ravens....

I hope you have a great day everybody!

A Cold and Silver Linings Playbook

Hello from my bed where I am currently nursing a bad cold. Yuck, I hate being sick. I have used 75% of a tissue box, gone through 2 bags of cough drops, and sipped on multiple mugs of tea. Hopefully the nyquil I took a little earlier will kick in soon and I will get a great night of knock-out sleep and feel better tomorrow!

My cold did not, however, stop me from going to the movies today with my BFFL Rachel!

We went to see Silver Linings Playbook which was FANTASTIC. I highly recommend it.

At first I wasn't too sure about it- the beginning is definitely a little out there and it wasn't anything like I pictured it being...but it was really good! Once the story got going, the movie flew by and all of a sudden it was the end and the credits were rolling! I love a good movie on a Sunday afternoon.

We also spent about 45 minutes in the mall near the movie theatre and of course I couldn't go in a mall without buying something! I hit the clearance racks at Old Navy and got a few tank tops, a running top, and two shirts.

Here is the running top I picked up:

It wasn't on sale- but I thought a little running gear might step up my motivation! =)

Now I'm just waiting for this cold to pass. It seems like EVERYONE has been sick lately. I've had so many students out with the flu, bad colds, throw-up bugs etc... I'm hoping that this is over soon- I hate being sick!

Since I'm posting this on Sunday night- this post will take place my usual Monday morning post...

Have a great start to the week everybody!

Florida Vacation (Part 6)

Today is the last day of my vacation recap- we will be back in regular time before you know it! This has actually been a great week to recap because I've been sick with a horrible ear infection- so I honestly have only been working and resting the entire week! Anyways, more on that later...

The last few days in Florida were incredibly relaxing- hanging out at the house, taking Roxy for walks near the water, going out to dinner, and attending a local flea market.

I even was able to have dinner at Captain Hiram's with my parents- it is a local, waterfront restaurant that always has live music. There is an outdoor section of the restaurant that is called the SandBar and is so much fun.

I had one of their speciality drinks called The Pink Flamingo which was absolutely delicious- i need to figure out how to make it on my own!

Doesn't my dinner look colorful?! I ordered spinach and artichoke dip which was surprisingly filling! I really enjoyed the colorful chips that they put together, it definitely made my dinner more interesting.

The lighting at night was gorgeous- this iPhone picture certainly does not do it justice.

On my last day in Florida- we headed to a local flea market. There were a ton of vendors there- especially jewelry. My mom bought me these beauties...

Yup $3! They will probably turn my ears green- but they're cute!

As I mentioned earlier, the night before I flew home my right ear started to ache. I was pretty miserable the entire plane ride home- immediately once I got off the plane I headed for the emergency room- good thing too because my ear was completely swollen! I apparently had both an inner and outer ear infection.

You can see the difference between my good ear and bad ear just in these pictures. I have spent most of the week just working and hanging around the house. I have officially caught up on my DVR shows and have been getting lots of rest! I hope that soon it will be over with and I'll be feeling good as new- I really need to get running again. I'm certainly not starting the year off as I would have liked!
